Cetacea Lab

Cetacea Lab

In 2001 the North Coast Cetacean Society (NCCS) built Cetacea Lab, a land based whale research station located on Gil Island. This was only possible through the generosity and permission of the Gitga’at First Nation of Hartley Bay. In the last 2 decades, of working side by side, to help protect this place of beauty and habitat for whales, a relationship of great respect and friendship has developed. The work that we are able to accomplish today is only possible due to their trust and support.

Presently NCCS and BC Whales are in the process of donating Cetacea Lab to the Gitga’at people and it will operate under the Pacific Whale Society.
